Vinny
there was absolutely nothing in my two previous postings that even hinted at trying to pick any kind of fight. Absolutely nothing.
Look who's being touchy.
...and you get on my case when I take something offensive!
There was, I repeat, not a shred of attempt at being nasty in either of my two previous postings.

Well, anyway
I really appreciate everyone's help and advice. I am not looking for an investment piece, although I see nothing wrong with people investing in art/items. I simply want to spend my money wisely. I suppose that I will plod along, slowly collecting originals, but try to concentrate on the rarer non-reissued items. One clock I hope never to pass up - the original sunflower clock! Now that would be a keeper.
I am truly a novice at this - I have only seen one ball clock in my life! I went to my first DWR store last weekend in PDX and was floored by the neat items. I now have a list of re-issues I want for furniture, although I will probably buy from Hive, as they seem to have better selections. Of course the expense will necessitate slow purchases - but things mean more that way! Thanks again!

Collecting
Collect what you like, and collect pieces that you know will keep or appreciate in value. As your collection grows and evolves, you will most likely decide to get rid of some pieces which you no longer like as much, and you will probably want to sell them. As it stands, the Vitra re-issues do not hold their value as they are contemporary productions -- i.e. a used / pre-owned one will cost (or sell for) less than a new one.
In my opinion, the Vitra re-issues will only ever increase in value long after they stop making them.
