Hi people, I'm looking for an image showing a radio designed by Franco Albini that has the bodywork made of glass. Any ideas? Thanks.
The Famous...
radio was shown and is part of the catalogue of an exhibition called: Italian Arts & Design: The 20th Century. Now on in the Royal Ontario Museum. It was in Montreal during the summer and I could probably find a catalogue there at an upcoming trip to Montreal (this wednesday) It all depends on how badly or fast you need it
It would be great!!
It would be great!! I'm dreaming about seeing the picture of that radio because I'm exploring the subject of the use of transparent materials in design, and I think that Franco Albini may have been one of the firsts to try it. If you find one, give me a shout!! Thanks.
An earlier version?
There's a photo of a clear plexiglass-bodied radio by Albini on Page 59 of Penny Sparke's book "Design in Italy, 1870 to the Present." This may be the 1933 prototype to the eventual 1938 production radio? I don't know.
Anyway, I've taken a photo of that page -- click the link below. It's not a great photo, but does the trick.
The caption describes it as follows:
"Transparent radio, cased between two pieces of clear Perspex, designed by Franco Albini for a competition in 1933 . . . The radio was only a prototype and was never put into production."
Will keep looking in the ol' library ...

It could be this one if it...
It could be this one if it has been designed by Franco Albini, or if not, it's very likely to be related to it. Its look makes me think that has never been produced as I have seen many pictures of radios in books about history of broadcasting apparatuses, and I've never seen anything that looks like that. Interesting. And its look is cool. Thanks!!
