Just wondering what the general consensus is on those brass starbursts which are for wall decoration.I just got one from the thrift store and it's pretty cool.My question is,are they too formal to hang in a room over an Eames lounge chair? I've seen some of the original C.Jere crafted pieces go for big bucks.

By 'formal' I'm wondering if you mean "following or according with established form, custom, or rule"--in the sense that starbursts, boomerangs and chevrons were ubiquitous mid-century forms. If so, I don't think a little "formal" style here and there is bad, so long as one isn't filling a room with it.
For me, starbursts point to to a historical vision of nascent space travel, progressive thinking and optimism. Yes, they're often kitsch--such as a gold starburst in pink Formica countertops--, but in other pieces such as a well designed wall sculpture, or better yet a George Nelson clock, they can be beautiful.
Can you post a pic of your wall sculpture?
