Still pinching myself after scoring the black Paul McCobb Planner Group Table and chairs today! Those toothpick legs are awesome!Anyhow,a couple of questions. What would you recommend to polish and clean up the rather streaky Black tabletop? A friend said to try a very mild automotive compound applied with terrycloth.Another recommended Murphy's Oil Soap cleaner followed by Mineral Oil to add gloss.
Also, since this amazing set bounces out my vintage Lane Walnut table and chairs, should I worry about finding a Black McCobb credenza,or will my existing vintage Teak Danish unit be okay? Did people actually buy all black Planner Group sets,or is mixing okay?? Just wondering;any thoughts, people?

Nice score, you should post...
Nice score, you should post pictures! I use regular furniture polish, however I'm sure you'll have many opinions on what to use. My furniture mix includes Teak " Glenn of California" furniture, Many Heywood Wakefield Modern, Paul McCobb pieces, etc. I like mixing period furniture, which I've done with Overman Chairs, Drexel Declaration, so go for it!!! You may not likely score another Black Paul McCobb piece on the cheap. I believe these pieces were meant to mix / match....

The black lacquer ones are cool.
Of the few Planner Group pieces I have is a square kitchen dining table and a pair of armchairs, plus pair of single drawer nightstands.
My kitchen table was losing some of the black surface, so I said 'to heck with it' and spray painted it black with black lacquer. The surface is the table wasn't so mint,so I hardly did much damage.

.
Let the normal wear show, no tricks.A black vintage top will show age esp a dining table. They mixed the black and natural in the period. The tabac and the other finishes were usually kept all in the same finish in a room.
