There must be three varieties? Birch, birch with dark veneer and orange? I just obtained this clock in orange. It seems very fragile, but seems to be in decent condition given it's age.
Is there anyway to clean it without damaging the wood?
If I cut the cord, would that decrease it's value? The original cord is very long and dirty. It will be hard to hang it (it's sitting on the floor in the pic).
The veneer on some of the arms seems to be pulling apart, should I be worried? It seems to be holding it's shape okay.
I guess this should be hung away from direct sunlight?
Thanks. I'm really excited to have this clock. I'm hoping iclock is around!

Great find Rockybird!
The old Howard Miller catalog reproductions I have list 3 variations of the Sunflower clock #2261: Walnut and birch, Walnut and black plywood, and Birch and Red plywood. I have the 1st and 2nd, but have never seen the 3rd in real life. I thought I had a picture of the Birch and Red one somewhere, I searched all over for it, but couldn't find it. I do remember it being birch on one side of the wooden veneers and painted red/orange on the other side, not painted all over. I will keep trying to find a picture of one. Yours might be a special order from the company. I've seen an all white painted one once in an old 60s/70s interior design book too. Someone may have just painted it that way or maybe it was a special order too. Anyway, what a great clock to find and it looks to be in great shape. Many times the old ones have some part nicked or missing. Post some more pics of it if you can. Here's a couple pics of the other 2 variations.

Wright auctions sold an orange one back in June, 2004, but the online picture of it is not very good.

thanks!
Thanks for the pics! It's beautiful in all the varieties. I have never heard of the red one. I would love to see a pic if you ever find one. Here is another orange one I found:

Below is another pic. (I'll get more tomorrow). You can see where the veneer is pulling away, but the arms are still holding their shape. I can see the same thing in the 1st dibs model also.
I also have the vitra model, and I was thinking of selling it now that I have the original, but I think I will move it to another room.
