I am looking to buy a pole-mounted shelving system, mostly to hold books. I have come across two similar systems, Rakks and ISS, both essentially based on the George Nelson-designed CSS system for Herman Miller (now long out of production). See:

www.rakks.com

www.issdesigns.com

Does anyone have experience with either system? Or another similar system?

Thanks.

RAKKS
I have seen this system installed at a client's site and it looked good and sturdy to me.

Hi, I actually purchased a shelf system from ISS Designs and was very happy overall. The items shipped undamaged from California to Florida and were fairly easy to install. Make sure you you use a level. 🙂 The spacers supplied to enclose within the rods seemed odd as they were nothing more than cut peices of PVC pipe...but they did the job. Once installed I thought they seemed a little wobbly, but when I began to actually put items (my MCM glass collection) on the shelves the tension created stability.

OMNI....... george nelson design
before we got our CSS we were very happy with our OMNI system. it is handsome, affordable vintage design. vintage designer furniture also has a better resale value.

shelfshop
try shelfshop in nyc. They bought the rights to Nelson's OMNI system. The really great thing about them is that you won't have to scavenge for additional parts if you choose to expand
