From time to time, I come across various tables that look like the classic "cloud" tables designed by Gilbert Rohde in the 1930's that are known to be some of Herman Miller's first modernist furniture. They always have tapered and often fluted wood legs, and wood or thick glass tops with brass fittings. I'm wondering if anyone can provide any info about how to identify a genuine Rohde design from an imitation or a knock off. The pieces I've seen aren't exactly like the well-known Rohde designs, but have many similar elements. They generally do not have a manufacturer's mark, but they are definitely old. Did Rohde design cloud tables for any other manufacturers besides HM? Were there many non-Rohde imitators? Any info would be appreciated.
