Depends
Funny you should ask -- i just renewed my insurance today.
But as with most insurance, the type of "valuable articles" insurance you'll need for your collection depends on what you have, how much you're willing to pay, what kind of deductibles, etc. I don't claim to understand most of it, so I suggest that you contact your local insurance agent (i worked through a Chubb representative) and ask them about the options & costs.
As an example, I have a blanket policy covering up to a total of $50,000, w/a ceiling of $10K on any individual item. No deductible. Cost is $105 per year. It's called "valuable articles" or "fine arts" coverage.
I didn't have to itemize, but you can go that route, too. The insurance isn't great, but isn't too expensive and lets me sleep easier knowing that if, god forbid, something should happen, i would at least be able to replace some of my collection.
But it's a good question, and I wondered the same before I got the insurance a few years ago. And I still don't know for sure whether there are better options.
Anyone else?
