I'm guessing that it was only two years old. She didnt say exactly - but it looks brand new. Perhaps it was older, because I think these things are warrantied for at least 3 years. And who knows exactly how it broke. Maybe she and her husband were trying out a new...yoga...position on it. Maybe she tripped and landed on the back.
Whatever the case, I'm not too worried about the shockmounts. We've got the same chair in my office and its been solid as a rock for 2 years. Everything - be it an Eames chair or a BMW - has problems once in a while. I'm sure if the current HM production were seriously flawed we'd be hearing about it all over the place. I asked Alfie at Hume to test the other side and make sure it was solid just in case.
