Spring mechanism failure on Vatne 807 chair
I've been the proud and happy owner of a Vatne 807 lounge chair and ottoman for about 6 years now, and as a vintage furniture dealer, I always keep my eye out for these chairs, as I know very well how extraordinarily comfortable they are! I've bought and sold a few over the years, and I recently acquired another. The issue with this chair is that the spring mechanism seems to be mostly shot. As in when you sit down in the chair, the spring doesn't have enough tension and practically sends you flying backwards. The mechanism is completely closed, and there doesn't seem to be any way to access the spring inside. We've cranked down all the way on the adjustment knob, and even replaced the adjustment knob with a longer bolt in the hopes that that would compress the spring more. That helped a little bit, but not enough. So...just wondering if anyone else has dealt with a similar problem with these chairs and knows of a solution.

Vatne and Per Arne
The people at Vatne are extremely nice and helpful. I wrote to the company asking for information about one of their older models. Per Arna replied very promptly with the information and supporting pictures.
I think this is a hallmark of a company with a fine tradition; support even for their older products, excellent service even when there isn't a quick buck in it for them.
Bravo Vatne !
