Hi all,

I have one of these chairs which needs a bit of attention, it's been badly reupholstered and my question is: do you know if the seating was padded in any way, or is it simply fabric on ply? (I think that's the base anyway).

Am I also correct in thinking that these were the carvers in a dining set?

Super nice, are they rosewood? I've never ever seen bare fabric over ply, it just doesn't take the knocks without padding underneath so yes, I'd say it should be padded.
It does look 'right' though, no thin dense foam or upholsteres felt there?

mine is a dark teak
it's a lovely chair though, you're right. Quite wide too, so it also makes a decent armchair.
The picture is not of my actual chair. There's no padding on mine, but that could be because someone removed it. It's been reupholstered very badly. Having said that, the one's in the picture don't look padded either?

There should always be padding of some sort, check for scraped back old foam/glue or vent holes in the ply. Thin padding looks good on them, I'd go for dense and 1/2 inch.
