I have a free-standing Cado unit consisting of shelves and various cabinets in rosewood which I purchased in the early 1970s.
The shelves and cabinets are supported by uprights that are approximately 3/4" thick, just over 8" deep and around 8 feet high. Each upright is connected to another one via a pair of stretchers on the bottom and one at the top. The uprights have pre-drilled holes every inch or so into which metal "holders" can be inserted for shelves or certain cabinets (records, bar, desk, etc.)
I wish to expand my unit by purchasing 2 or 3 addtional uprights and a dozen or more 8" deep shelves. I've been doing a bit of googling and have not been successful so far. While I'm pretty certain that the shelves and cabinets are part of the "Royal System", I'm not certain if what I have is the "Royal System" or the "Cado System", or some more recent combination of the two.
Information on this is welcomed, and a source of the uprights and shelves would be greated appreciated.

Those are the two choices that i know of. The metal rods are 'Royal'.
I have the wood.
A google search shows many listings. And that was just the first page.
And you have the spelling correct!
I've added a few pieces over the last few years but the price is going up.
Recently seems to have peaked because so much of it was made.
No magic source as it is no longer in production.
(free standing is a bit more rare but i still see it from time to time)
Wall mounted was more popular.

There are no brackets as such. The corner of each shelf (or cabinet) is held in place by a pin-like metal holder. One end, about half the length, is cylindrical and fits into one of the pre-drilled holes in the wooden upright. The other end of the metal pin has a flat surface upon which the corner of the shelf, or cabinet rests.

I would send a photo except that I'm currently residing in Florida, and the furniture is in Chicago. I'm planning to move it, as well as the rest of my belongings, within the comming year to mny new Florida place.
The shelves are overloaded; currently, there ae at least 6 layers of books on top of books placed in the conventional way on the top shelf on each of the four "bays" of the unit. So either I need to expand it, or replace it with higher capacity book shelves. I'd much prefer to keep the rosewood!

i just bought a royal system...
i just bought a royal system on ebay and in australia also which is very rare, it is a huge system hence the price, but i have been looking for something like this for a while and wasn't going to let it get away, can't wait for it to arrive and mount it on my big wall!
i bought a spare part from www.aardewerkenzo.com in holland and had them ship it to me its a slanted magazine rack which the system does not have and every system should, so they could be the go.

Thanks for the URL. I went there, but saw only a couple of free-standing units. Unfortuately, none of these seemed to have a solid upgright (about 8" wide) into which the pins for the shelf and cabinet corners are inserted.
If you saw one like this, please correct me and tell me the page.
