What a shallow explanation for Rashid's design of that chair. I am sure that was an afterthought rather than a premeditated inspiration. Rashid is a hack. I am sick of his postmodern garbage. I am absolutely sick of design as a joke, or as shock value.
Apart from this, it seemed many people were falling for that ornate modern bullshit that has become so popular the last few years. Even I, for a second, thought there may be some merit there. But if I see any more ceramic white antlers, elaborate floral wallpaper, glossy white or black antiques (a la Wanders) I will spew all over my monitor.
Let's get back to the basics. These hacks simply create "new" ideas for the sake of creating them. These creations do not align with any real social motive, just selfish motives ....
A big wave of people tend to get sucked in by these temporary feats of aesthetic shit, simply because they are bored with the classics. I'll need a better reason than that.
Why don't we just dump fried chicken and BBQ for astronaut food just for a change? My brain likes the same old food too... because the aesthetics of the classics goes down easily....
Good Lord. I must've had a bee in my bonnet.
Couple of things
I have no problems with Barry's blanket statements that buyers of Kincaid generally lack taste - seems a redundant statement actually.
I will take issue with his earlier post about Kincaid's sexuality in that his paintings and persona are not 'manly' and therefore its surprising that Kincaid is straight. I'm a card carrying, flag waving homosexual and if you want to assert that gays aren't manly, Barry, I'll fly out to Minneapolis and drop you like a sorry bag of rocks.
So lets take a moment to back the stereotype train up a bit and continue with the general conversation at hand, shall we?
Lucifer, Let's remember he...
Lucifer, Let's remember he didn't just say that Kinkade buyer's have bad taste - he said that they are probably republican, church going, and uninformed. Lucifer, people only tend to take issue with things aimed at them directly. I understand that. But don't let things like this pass over your head simply because you aren't in the line of fire. For one, I am sick of the general consensus that it is okay to bash Christians. It happens on this board from time to time, but I tend not to worry with it for the most part.
So while, yes, homosexuals are a typical target for many, Christians (by the left for sure) are made fun of almost more than anyone. I happen to be a liberal Christian myself. And I tire at my fellow lefty's willingness to bash anyone who would say anything about a gay person, or a black person, but finds it funny every time someone makes a Christian out to be some cousin f--king redneck twit with no education!
So while I agree with you, that no one should question someone's sexuality solely based on aesthetic tastes and whether or not they are masculine ... I think your issue with this is strictly selfish. Let's put an end to all hurtful generalities and prejudices ... even of those groups that are currently in style to jab.
Lastly, I think your need to prove your manliness though physical threat says something, no? It at least makes you just as bad. Both of you are in need of a time out!
Isn't aggressive posturing manly?
WS chill - I wasn't ignoring the rest of what Barry was saying. I actually thought you did a good job of addressing that in an earlier post. I, like you, was addressing that which touched close to home. I could just as easily have asked why you didnt go far enough in addressing blanket generalities by adding your gay friend into the mix with your dad and extended family.
And I don't need to prove my manliness by doing anything. I thought I would be tongue-in-cheek by overly aggressive posturing. I failed, and for that I am sorry.
