Hello Everyone,
Seeking Blenko Expert who knows the works of the Blenko 4 well.
We obtained a set of Blenko pieces from Chicago that was all Blenko in the largest scales they produced the various pieces for - all early work in the 60's. Husted and Myers mostly. Some rarely done sizes were also done in rarely or infrequently performed colors within the collection.
One of the pieces is this one and it is not in any catalogue or reference.
We live in WV and have taken it to persons knowledgeable in Blenko and they all agree that the stopper is no doubt Blenko, and they concur that the glass of the stopper and bottle are one in the same, but are stumped by the metal cage that the glass was blown into.
It is posible the customer requested a custom piece, but they are deceased and so is their knowledge.
Some of Blenko's greatest experts are not in West Virginia, so I am hoping someone can shed some light onto this oddity.

I dunno about Blenko
but glass blown into metal holders like that is not a rare or infrequently performed technique. Or are you thinking it's rare or infrequent to find Blenko glass done that way? It's hard to sort out what you're saying when you seem to be stating it in the most complicated way possible.

Cage Blown
Cage-blown glass is, as Spanky says, a fairly common technique.
It was used by both Whitefriars and Nazeing, here in the UK, for lighting.
On the question of attribution, glass is always difficult, but in my experience if you can't attribute it to a different maker and it walks like a duck and squawks like a duck, chances are it is a duck (i.e Blenko)
you could always ask them of course?

Not Blenko
Sorry, although a neat piece, most definitely not Blenko.
As far as I can see the stopper is a Blenko "wannabe". Almost all Blenko stoppers have a solid base and are ground. It appears as if that stopper has an open, hollow base, unless of course I am not seeing it properly.
I would be interested in seeing the other pieces that you do believe to be Blenko.

Important Suggestion
Hi,
Here's a link with Blenko stoppers and rare decanters:
Your stopper is definitely not Blenko, more like Indiana Handcraft Glass.
Hope this helps your search.
