Hi,
I'm helping a local collector sell some of stuff, and I'm just a bit unsure about this chair. He purchased a pair of them a few years back from a London auction house. He says they are Ponti chairs, for Cassina, very rare with arms and possibly the wood is apple. Can anyone confirm any of this? Any additional info would be great. Thank you.

A local auction house had a lot a couple of months ago listed as Gio Ponti dining chairs. The lot went for quite a high price. It only took a 1-2 minute google search to accurately determine that they were in fact Carlo di Carli chairs for M Singer and Sons. While still a nice design and valuable chairs, the buyer was adamant afterwards that they were Ponti. I'm always surprised how much people are willing to shell out without doing their homework.
The superleggera
Was a redesign of the leggera which was a redesign of descalzi's chiavarina.
Here are another couple of "leggera" armchairs just like the OP's. The ponti attribution is unsupported, and seems not to have inspired very high prices as they sold for the opening bid. (At 1000 euro per chair though, that's not bad considering the complete lack of documentation and the sketchy attribution).

Thank you for all this info. Really helpful. I always understood (maybe wrongly) that the chairs main design feature was being very light. Hence the promo photo of it being lifted simply with one arm. So adding arms to it, and extra weight, seemed a little odd. But oh well.
