Hi guys!
long time lurker, first time poster!
I got an original vintage knoll (70's) marble top for my current knoll tulip table (with white laminated top) The marble is in perfect condition. It's the coated arabescato marble which I love. The coating is like a clear plastic on top of the marble. It has some little hairline marks and i was wondering if it was posible to light polish em up with some very mild abrasive. i don't want to get to the marble. Called knoll and they told me not to touch it, but I was looking for somebody that has done it first...

Thanks again!

Unless its seriously...
Unless its seriously disfiguring I'd say leave it....not wishing to sound too romantic but minor imperfections as part of the chracter of an old piece. Plus there's every chance that the cracks go all the way through anyway....

.
Dining table tops show the most wear of ANY piece of furniture in the home.Abrasives will only remove the coating.I actually like the "dusty" look of worn marble.Trying to keep furniture ultra new is a losing battle.Enjoy the cool feel of marble...

Try a CD polish
The coat is a polymer, a plastic, so a polish for music CDs might give it a shine w/o hurting the coating.
