Hello all,
I am hoping someone can help me. I just picked up a Plycraft chair & ottoman(free). Unfortunately they both smell of pet urine, not from actually being peed on, but from the stench of the house they were in(it was gross!!) Is there a way to get this odor out of them? Can I refinish the wood & redo the upholstery myself (i am quite handy), or will this hurt the value? Should the restoration be done professionally? Any ideas or suggestions? First time doing this, not sure how to post a picture here.

("The Tappet Brothers") recently addressed this issue on their Car Talk program. There are spray or liquid treatment options available at sporting goods stores, etc, for removing objectionable animal odors (skunk, urine, fish, etc). See below for a random example.
A Plycraft lounger has little historic/monetary value (compared to Eames). Go ahead and refinish/reupholster -- and enjoy !

Probably the biggest culprit is gonna be the upholstery and the foam. And most plycraft chairs need new foam anyway.
I'd use an enzyme neutralizer on all the wood first. You can find them at pet stores. Then I'd ditch all the foam/upholstery and redo it. I've done 2 of these and Spanky has done at least 5 by now.
