Oh dear.
I remember making a few typos, but not that. I would edit the post, but I am not exactly sure what I wanted to say. Should I erase it, or leave it as a warning (to myself)?
Anyway, it seems I promised a photo. I have about 15 or so more books hidden in a side board; they may end up in a small shelf. But that's it. Though my point is not really to have a small number of books, but to have only the books I need. Other than that, I think Pegboard summed it up well. Having said that, I do like the look of Robert's Penguins.
Interesting shelves. I agree with Brent on the spanky sculpture: amazing and terrifying.
Huh!
I just realized that I seem to organize by size! Wonder what dire things that says about me? The books in my pantry are all my cookbooks, which seems logical, no? And the ones by the womb chairs are all the design books I like to browse when I've got a bit of time to fritter away. My bird watching books are located there as well since it's a quick grab from my fav birdwatching post.
Gustaf that is a hilarious post, please leave it.
And yes, that is one scary scultpure. I'd have nighmares!
Culling and digitizing
I own too many books and don't have a home library, so I try to give away most books after reading them. (I do catalog titles at LibraryThing.com in case I want to replace them in the future.)
I keep unique books such as those with my marginalia or childhood books whose physical texture, smell and design are important to me.
Otherwise, I want my library to be digitized and look more and more like this:

I know it's funny. We...
I know it's funny. We disagree on precious little.
Not too showy. Warm materials. Hints of Asian. Touches of color. Organized patches of clutter. Touches of humanity. Unapologetic favoritism for classics. Simple forms. Green where possible. Solid construction. White. Wood. Glass.
Nice thread 🙂
Here is my bookshelf.
The colored books are the collection of the most impressive works from the world literature. These books were published in the USSR from 1967 to 1977. There are 200 volumes.
They were presented by my parents and I like how they look ordered by color.
Not to derail the book spine...
Not to derail the book spine discussion, but if manufacturers here in the States stopped making any form of window that had fake pane divider grilles embedded between the double panes of glass, I would consider it a positive development for American residential architecture.
