Hi..I've got a bedroom set which consists of a full/queen size bedrail, head & footboard, one night table, one 5
drawer highboy, one 9 drawer dresser & mirror frame for the long dresser(we broke the mirror *oops*).By the style, I am pretty certain it is from the 60's, however, I can find no marks or dates on any of the pieces to identify designer, manufacturer, date, etc. The only thing found is on the bottom of one of the drawers a stamp mark that says Made In Taiwan & name(?) san yee or yee san. There are letters & numbers scrawled across the back of the pieces. I live in Ontario, Canada but have no idea if this furniture was made in Canada or elsewhere. Unfortunately, I broke my digicam so I have no actual pics. Today, after searching for hours, I came across an online pic of a night table that is almost identical to ours. I will post that pic. The furniture is solid wood except for a piece of particle board that is under the bottom drawers on both dressers. The drawers are dovetailed constructed...not sure what type of wood. I will post actual pics when I get a new cam, but in the meantime, any ideas from anybody? I'd like to sell this set, but don't have a clue what to ask for it. I don't want to cheat anyone but I also don't want to cheat myself for lowballing the price. Thanks for any help - hope the link works...I can't figure out how to post my pic. Becky (newbie) 🙂

Absolutely
Absolutely not Ercol
Ercol is hand made in England of native woods such as beech and elm

night table legs
So sorry...I meant to mention the legs in my first post and forgot. I'm new, I'll learn, I promise. The pic of the table I posted earlier is almost identical to ours except for the legs. Hoping this next pic posts...the legs on the dresser and night table in this pic are closer to the legs on the furniture we've got. This mid century furniture investigating is new to me and I'm beginning to see how the slightest of details (in my mind anyway) can be very important. I don't know..maybe this bedroom set I have is junk in comparison to the masters' products, but I have to prove that to myself before I sell it for next to nothing. Actually, I'm selling it as it is just too big for our bedroom and am putting the money into my puppy fund - adopting an 8 week old minpin next weekend. Once again, my apologies for failing to point out an important feature - hope this next pic posts. I appreciate the input I've received already today 🙂

apart
Apart from it being stylistically wrong, and in the wrong timber; the fact is is marked 'made In Taiwan' rather points to it not being made by Ercol of High Wycombe, England.

stylistically wrong?
as in to be an Ercol piece or as in not of the 60's or 70's? Do you have any ideas for me as to where to search? Maybe it's a piece of crap and I should throw the whole set in the dumpster...I need to get a digicam soon so I can post pics online. All I can say for now is take the table in pic#1, take the legs off and replace them with the legs from the dresser in pic #2 and you basically get a mental image of what I have. Anybody posting on this site live in the Toronto area?

hey becky sounds like you're getting overwrought with this one, heres my advice, if you can find a small piece of lifted veneer and discover chipboard underneath toss it or give it to charity. If not just sell it on ebay and you'll probably get the best price yer gonna get without wasting too much time.
My mistake you did say solid, I still say describe it thorougly and sell on ebay. But the Taiwanese sticker in that time frame can't promnise you much.

tks
hey Heath...thanks so much for responding. As far as the Taiwan stamp, I thought I read somewhere on this forum that sometimes the wood used to make furniture will have a stamp or mark and doesn't necessarily mean the furniture was actually made there. I'll have to look thru here and see if I can find that post again. That stamp is only on the bottom of one drawer (the underside of the drawer) in the highboy. I've looked around on ebay and the night table in the first pic I posted is one I found on ebay. The guy is asking over $200 for it. I did have my set advertised on craigslist and kijiji for around $250 - all pieces. I just get more and more confused...driving myself nutzzz(er). I do have an ebay account but have never even tried to sell anything on it - not sure a bedroom set is the way to go for a first sales attempt. The set is definitely solid, well constructed, in good condition overall, just a couple of minor scratches. Tomorrow, come hell or high water, I am going to get pics of it and post them on here. I understand it is hard to help me when I've not posted actual pics. Thanks again...you lifted my spirits and made me 🙂

Hi Becky
Hi Becky, I was just pointing out to another poster that it couldn't possibly be Ercol, I was in no way criticising your bedroom set
(After all, I haven't even seen it)
As Heath says, eBay really is the best selling platform, just describe it fully..warts and all, get decent pictures of it, and make sure you specify buyer to pick up, and it should be no more difficult than selling anything.
the market will dictate the price, but at least you can be sure the highest number of people will see it.
Good luck!
Robert

Hi Robert 🙂
I really didn't take it personally, but I needed to ask as I'm so "green" in this forum. That almost makes me laugh as so much of the furniture, accessories, etc that I'm seeing online and being discussed here are things I threw out during my teens and twenties - now I'm kicking myself *L* To me, Melmac was that cheap, plastic stuff that my mom used to serve us dinner on when I was a kid...we moved up to Corelle when I was in high school - if only I'd known *rolls eyeballs* I wonder how many of you avid collectors, with so much knowledge in this area, were born in the 60's. I'll bet you a bedroom set that a majority of you were haha!! I like the retro 50's stuff and I was born in the 50's. I will heed the advice from you pros & definitely get some good pics and try to come up with a creative ad that will get me the best price. Still not sure about the ebay thing - have yet to list an item on my account there. I appreciate the honesty and support I'm getting. I'm glad I found this forum - my eyes have been opened to a new realm of collecting which = FUN!! Thanks Robert 🙂

Found a designers mark. - D Vilas??
Tonight, after all the googling I've been doing, I found a mark "by D Vilas" on the headboard. I thought I'd finally found something to go on, but I can find nothing about him online. I'm posting a few pics..hope somebody out there has heard of him or will give me their educated opinion of the furniture. Had to take the pics with a cell phone, so they're not the best. http://www.flickr.com/photos/61389154@N00/

re: Lots
Hi Robert...saw that link as well, but I'm truly a novice at this stuff. I think I get it now - Vilas was a manufacturer for different designers? I thought that Vilas was a designer and that confused me - I've not seen one example of Vilas that even closely resembles my set. I'm lost ha! I went to ebay and put "Vilas" in search and came up with zip. Tks for the link 🙂 Any help is good...doing this research on my own is getting old - overthinking as usual I guess.
