The table looks a bit French to me. Names as Jean Royere and Jacques Hitier come to my mind.

Curious. The first table is by Edward Ihnatowicz for Mars Ltd about 1954, retailed I believe by Heals. Yours seems to be a copy.

I had heard the first coffee table was sold by Heals, so thanks for the designer information. The coffee table I bought is not as refined as the British one and the brass ring is screwed onto the frame, which is not a very subtle way to resolve the leg joints.
I am yet to pick up the table, but the owner tells me it is a genuine vintage piece. I am in Australia, so perhaps it is a vintage copy of the British table.

I've read that there were heavy tariffs and restrictions on imported furniture in Australia during the early 1950's meant that many local furniture producers made copies, some licensed and some not licensed. Sydney based firm Descon made the Hardoy chair and designs by Eames.
We have a lounge suite by George Korody that is similar to a design by Jens Risom, and of course there are those Douglas Snelling chairs that are blatant rippoffs of Ralph Rapson.
I find it perculiar that someone would make a copy of an obscure British coffee table, but a copy it surely is and I think it is going to be extremely difficult to determine the maker of this piece.

I think there were also some Wegner round chairs in blackwood and some Juhl Japanese chairs, do you know anything about those?
BTW That house at the end of my street was owned by someone named Brenner, the new owner tells me, too much of a coincidence, I expect it was a job for family.

There were heaps of Wegner style chairs made in Australia and Doube made a copy of a Wegner daybed that is commonly sold these days as the real thing.
Heath, where are you again? Are you referring to Brenner Associates? They were such a cool bunch of architects. They also made great furniture.
Update on my coffee table. I just picked it up and it's great. Definitely 1950's and a a very nice piece of furniture. The seller said she believes that her grandmother might have brought over from Holland many years ago.

I'm a bit west of Brisbane, its all cows, trucks, utes and National party voters. I'll take some proper pics of the house next week and post them here, its full of asbestos so theres a lot of work to do, should be nice when its finished though.

Heath, I'm not sure which is worse, conservatives or asbestos. I think you have posted pics of this Brenner home before. There are some great buildings down your way and some great finds I bet. Brisvegas always as stacks of 1950's treats.
I just heard back from a Dutch dealer who said my coffee table is not a Dutch design. Even though it's not the same as the British table I have lusted over for years, I really like this little coffee table.

After months of searching my partner came across a picture of the 1950's coffee table in an issue of Home Beautiful magazine. The table was manufactured by the Australian company Framac Pty Ltd in 1959 and was featured at the Furniture Guild Exhibition in the same year.
