Ignoring the god-awful upholstery choice ... What is this chair?
I've seen something similar described as Mid-Century... but I'm not so sure, could be an earlier era?
Any thoughts?

This chair
is a traditional solid wood flared leg dining side chair with an hourglass shaped back splat. It looks like it's probably mahogany. The style's not too goopy, so you could go a little more "transitional" with it if you wanted to. The fabric currently on the seat takes this chair way farther into contemporary-land than is advisable for the style.

rattling on-
...Or I should maybe say...than is advisable for the style if one wants to remain in "good taste"-
...but good taste is not always necessarily the best, it certainly tends to not be the most fun, anyway-
But that one would do well in a solid color classic felt-

Certainly "Empire" inspired.
Splat is "vasiform" and I could see the seat done in a striped satin in ecru or celadon.

Thanks!
And haha... Yes, the fabric is certainly not my taste. But for ten bucks each I bought four to recover in something clean and elegant. Will do for extra chairs when I have ten for dinner. Hate the finish too. Oh... So many projects!

Well, I'll be damned...
Check out this screen shot from the TV show "30 Rock" that *spanky* posted over on the Frank Reenskaug thread.
And, no, I don't mean look at Tina's cleavage.

Saw you look!
Thanks! Now if only Ms. Fey's big head (no insult intended) were not in the way, we could see the whole chair!
