I've had two of these chairs for about 10 years now. Trying to find out what they are and who made them.
What I do know: The markings on the base are for EST Co. and the seat shock is Gordon Manufacturing. Other than that the leather is most likely pigmented vinyl.
Any help appreciated,
Thanks

Not a salon chair
That is pretty gross EamesJunkie. No, the back doesn't go back that far, and I don't think the back is tall enough to support the upper back/neck. The recline angle is adjustable but even at maximum I don't think it would give you the reach of a salon chair. If so it would make for a really painful day at the salon.
I'm thinking it was definitely designed as lounge or executive chair.
I should add
I found the pair at a Mod furniture store in the Portland area. They were unloading them from a truck after returning from an estate sale. I made an offer before they made it to the sale floor. The chairs were accompanied by some other really nice original mod pieces from the same sale. Private home, non commercial I'm sure.
I have the same rare chair
and the manufacturer's tag shows it is produced by:
Oh, first you have to donate (paypal) $2.00 to designaddict if you want the answer...just kidding, but a good idea!
Your chair is made by the Belvedere Company. Yes EamesJunkie is right it is a Salon chair that can be ordered with different legs, this chair would be used in the reception area of the salon.

checks in the mail!
LOL, you got me setag! I agree, the $2.00 is well worth it to solve the mystery. As rare as they may not be, I've been asking for quite a while what they were with no luck at all. Kinda ironic now considering my grandpa had a full service barbershop when I was a kid.
Thanks so much for pointing me in the right direction!
So my next question would be is there any way to place the year of the chair?? The base and legs that are on it don't seem to be available now. And the seat cushions have accent buttons they don't offer anymore. I'm guessing this is a much older (vintage) model? Can't find any pictures of the rear of the chair to see if it's different in any other way.
Thanks again!
Glad
that you were able to id the chair! I would say that it was being produced at the same time that Plycraft started doing reproductions of the Eames style chair. I personally think it looks like early 70's based on the hardware and base style. Oh, and may I get in on the 2 dollar advice fee? 🙂
Hooked on design
You can certainly get in on my genuine Design Addict Dollars EamesJunkie. ;~) You guys know your stuff!
Hey setag, where did you find the production years?? I'm new to this chair pedigree thing, still learning. So, would I destroy any transitive value if I have it reupholstered to match an authentic Eames 670/1?
Same question goes for a set of (5)Chromecraft chairs I found, literally found. Easy enough to ID. The plastic is in great shape of course but the seat fabric is a bit water stained from sitting out in the rain, where did I mention, I FOUND them. I've been looking for some nice fabric to maybe refit them with but until then they've just been in storage. Should I just leave them as is?
Can't wait to acquire more cool pieces.
