I have one wall in my entry foyer that is blank because I can't decide what to put there. I'm thinking that I would like to put a chair there but it would function more as a piece of art than a sitting unit. It's directly to the right as you walk in the front door and I want it to make a statement right off the bat about the rest of the MCM furnishings to be found as you proceed through the rest of the house. In other words, I want it to make a visitor eager to explore the rest of the house; to create a sense of anticipation regarding things to come. The wall is only 40" wide, so a smaller chair would be better (no Papa Bears!)

If you had to pick one perfect chair as a statement, what would you pick?

P.S. Jeremiah, no rocket ships!

Blast off
A similar question (i.e. chair for foyer / entry) was posed not too long ago. There were a number of good suggestions... the Wegner valet chair stands out in my mind as one of the less common (and more expensive) pieces mentioned in that thread. If you're goal is to set the tone for the rest of your home, I would suggest putting together a thoughtful vignette around the chair you choose (e.g. side table, decor pieces, wall art). Some other possibilities might be the Panton S (very common, I know) or Gehry Wiggle chair.

Do you like wire chairs?
I really like this one-- "Nais" chair, by Alfredo Haberli:

A LaFonda chair would certainly
look nice in an entrance area, wouldn't it? Crisp, clean and not too big.

My idea of an 'appropriate' entryway chair
is obviously influenced by years of cramped city living.

I've always been a fan of these two from Alan Gould and Russel Spanner. Both are rarer chairs but fairly affordable.

Funny, I was going to suggest that same Alan Gould chair--
but I thought it might seem too "loungey" for an entryway. (LOVE that chair!)
If space allows, how about the "Bilge Lounge" by Uhuru, made from reclaimed barrel staves and truck springs?

Does it have to be a chair? ...
Does it have to be a chair? Why not a bench?

All great so far, give me more
All of you are geniuses. You immediately got it. WHC, your suggestions are awesome because of the play of light and space in, through and around the chair(s). Who is Alredo Haberli? I've never heard him mentioned. Foyers are all about the tease, aren't they? Woofwoof, it could be a bench, do you have one in mind?
More, please!

what about a barcelona ottoman?
very subtle design for occasional sitting, would go great with a small table or a floor-lamp. and it's low enough to also hang some art above it. not exactly mcm though, I know.
