Hello All,

I have a Peter Hvidt & Orla Mølgaard Nielsen "130" sofa by France & Søn. It's a solid teak frame and it seems that it bends on the middle a lot when people sit on it since there is no support in that part.

So my question goes for anyone that might have the same sofa or a similar one. Is this normal? I assume if it's been around for that long it's probably ok otherwise it would have been gone by now.

I have checked and there is no sign of cracks or anything of that looks odd. It looks just fine and it seems to hold people very well I just fear that someone will someday brake it. Am I being paranoid?

Thanks!

Worried?
Add a middle leg.
If it's designed to hold three people, it seems to me that it should be engineered to hold three people as well. That said, people tend to weigh more today than they did in the 1960s.
If it looks like it's sagging or being stressed when all three seats are occupied, you could fabricate a leg which could be affixed in an innocuous place in the middle (maybe inside the cross support on the back side) so it would not be very visible but would support weight in the center. I'd make something that is easily undone and does no permanent damage to the frame of the sofa.
Or you could implement a weight limit for your sofa and have your guests get on a scale when they arrive and you can decide if they are allowed to sit on the outside seats, the middle, or not at all.
But adding a leg in the middle might be easier.

Thanks Pegboard Modern, I...
Thanks Pegboard Modern, I think I'll go with the scale option. JK.
I thought of adding an extra leg and actually have an extra teak leg sitting around the garage but I'm afraid it will be visible. I'll see if I can come up with something.
Anyone else experienced this?
