I picked up this Pearsall chair the other day. Almost left it behind because it was so rough and dirty dirty dirty. The design was so cool I had to go back and rescue it. Worst case I have it recovered. The wood can be dealt with no problem. I'd like to take a stab at cleaning this chair to keep it original and to keep me from having it recovered. If it can be cleaned enough to satisfy me I will be surprised.
Long story short I'm looking for the best fabric cleaning tips and don'ts. I have a wet vac and a hand steam cleaner.
Any advice appreciated.

I've been very impressed
by the performance of Folex spot remover. It often works miraculously well, but more importantly it's never done any additional damage (fading, residue, odor, etc.) to the items I've used it on.
Folex doesn't need to be rinsed, so it might be easier to use than a soapy cleanser.

Folex ROCKS!
I just vacuumed the chair. Poured some Folex in a spray bottle and liberally sprayed down the worst parts of the chair and rubbed it clean with some rags. Then cleaned the rest of the chair. The rags are now gross but the chair looks promising. The stains appear to be gone. I will wait until it is fully dry but this is promising. Folex is amazing.
Now I need to repair and refinish the wood.
THANK YOU
Before and After pic and one more ?
Ok so this is after my first cleaning and second time just hitting a spot here and there. That is a wet spot not a stain. The before and after is amazing.
The only issue now is the material in place has little balls like on an old sweater. Should I just take those off with a razor or is there an easier way?
Next to start on the frame.
I am so glad this chair can stay original. I hate refinishing an original piece.
The folex is amazing.
don't use a razor on the pills
It's too easy to slice the fabric accidently.
Get one of these things. It has a gritty edge that grabs the pills. You might have to go over the surface four or five times but it should do a good job. It's great on sweaters. AND you can find them in the sewing notions section of a lot of supermarkets and I'm sure in fabric stores too.
