Just curious what the resident McCobb expert (or others) thinks about this being billed as a McCobb design.

There's very little information on the thing - a lot of people online attributing it to McCobb, but they're always also selling one of them, so...that's gotta be taken with a grain of salt. It's most frequently referred to as a planter, but I've also seen it called a wine bucket. Either's possible! Wondering if anyone's come across info on this piece in their research.

Planters Inc.
The Paul McCobb attribution of this planter is entirely spurious and unfounded as far as my research has been able to determine.
What I have discovered is that these planters were either manufactured or marketed by a Mail Order company called Planter's Inc. in the mid to late 50's. Planters Inc placed small advertisements in magazines such as House and Garden, Living for Young Homemakers, Better Homes, etc...
There was an line of brass accessories designed by Paul McCobb in 1952 which included candlesticks, brass and white glass holders and indeed a small all brass planter. There were very few of these accessories made and they are beyond rare. The only surviving piece which I know of is in the hands of his daughter.

Excellent! That's what I...
Excellent! That's what I always assumed, but it's nice to have my assumptions now bolstered by a few facts 🙂 Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
