I recently purchased a Paul McCobb Sideboard/Buffet from his Linear Group Collection (Model #415). I absolutely love the piece. I was trying to do a little research on the Linear Group, but found very very limited information online. Most of the McCobb pieces I see online are from the Planner and Directional Groups. All I really know is the Linear Group was made between 1956 and 1962. Also, That it was produced by Calvin Furniture. Was the Linear Group a popular collection? Since I don't see a lot of it's piece on ebay or other websites; It leads me to believe it wasn't a success. Also, I know the quality of McCobb's collections varied. The Planner group wasn't really considered the highest of quality, compared to some of his later collections. Was the Linear Group considered higher or lower quality? Was this Department store collection or a Showroom collection? Also, does anyone know of any Linear Group Catalogs that are online? I love to see other pieces from this Collection. Thanks. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Linear Group
The Linear Group was a mid-priced offering done in part to fill a gap in the market for Paul McCobb furniture, which, prior to the introduction of the Linear Group was targeted at the very low end of the spectrum (Planner Group for starting homemakers) and the very high end with the showroom based Directional collections. Linear was a success and was produced for about 6 years.
