I got a 24 page brochure of Paul Evans' amazing "Sculptured Metal" collection from the Directional Furniture company.
It's strangely beautiful stuff, but there's next to nothing on the web about this important designer/artist. Nothing on this website, either.
This is high end, expensive furniture, even at the time, and it commands 1st Dibs-level prices.
Any opinions?
also, nothing about him at Wikipedia, which is no surprise because of all the cool stuff at Wikipedia, there's scant articles on mid-century designers and furniture companies of the 1950's/1960's.

Barry I couldn'tagree more, I think Evans work is fantastic.
Why is there so little information about him ? Judging by the amount of work he's executed the man must have been extremely productive. I often wonder how hands-on he was or if he had a work force at his disposal.
Rago Arts archive is THEE place to trawl through and discover Evans rarer pieces, in fact Rago is amazing for all manner of one-off and small output designers who have never been fully recognised. It's also great for paintings too and has a fantastic amount of ceramics. Just in case anyone's missed it
I think perhaps
it's because it was always very high end. Appealing to the very rice and damn expensive too.
Directional was not a budget company, to be sure.
I also think it appeals to the modern fine art people too.
I can't imagine that it was sold in common furniture stores or at Department stores. Probably only available from design studios and specializt businesses.
