I just got back from NYC and saw some of the neatest Paul Evans pieces of furniture. I have been following his fantastic work for years, and seen his work at several shows, I am now of the opinion
his work is sculptured artwork not furniture!!
I have not been able to find any great books on this man. but I would have to rate him at the top of the list with Nakamshima for sculptured art work, almost embarrassing to call it furniture,
If you are in the market to spend $25,000 on a nice piece of art work this is your man.
Fantastic work.
"Paul Evans work is a mix of mid-century furniture design and mixed-metal sculpture in bronze, silver and gold. A Pennsylvanian, Evans studied sculpture, metal work, silver and gold smithing at several institutes, including the Cranbrook Academy of Art. He began making metal furniture and exhibited in a group show in 1957 at the Museum of Contemporary Crafts in New York. In 1964 Evans became the designer of furniture manufacturer Directional. With Directional, Paul Evans introduced his very collectible editions such as the Argent series, Sculpted Bronze, and the highly popular Cityscape collection. Most Paul Evans pieces were signed, and all of the custom items bear a signature and a date. Paul Evans furniture has been bringing record breaking prices at antique shows and auctions across the U.S. and Europe. (1931-1987)"

Paul Evans Inspired
I recently acquired this completely handcrafted sideboard, even the metal pulls were handcrafted. Paul Evans inspired? I have yet to find markings.
It is brutalist in style and attention was given to the entire piece, sides are completed and the back was nicely finished with four large wooden squares.
The interior is finished with two shelves and what appears to be shelving for LPs.
I have included an image link to provide you all with a visual inspection for comment.
This was purchased from a now deceased world traveller and pilot who collected mid century furniture, amongst other things.
