Papa looks,
well, like my Papa did, little heavy on top with skinny little legs. This seems to have exaggerated the proportions to where they really look out of balance.

Hhmmmmmm
First they knock off a masterwork by Wegner, then they take liberties with that design making it look like a foolish caricature. Nice.
Why stop there? Why not an Eames lounge settee? Maybe a coconut loveseat? How about a Barcelona two-seater (whoops, that one is being done already). Perhaps a Bertoia bird settee? Just take any design you like and apply the stretch limo treatment.
Guess they are trying to sprint to the bottom of the knock off heap. Look out White on White.

Good Lord. I take it these...
Good Lord. I take it these never existed? If they did they shouldn't have. Looks dumb.

Even more disturbingly topheavy than the original chair.
I've never particularly liked the Papa Bear, and never understood why many seem to think it some sort of Holy Grail of armchairs.
The proportions of this loveseat-hybrid seem true to the chair, except for the width of the seat, of course. If it looks worse wider, does that mean the chair version might look BETTER if it were narrower? Let's see:

Nah, not particularly.
Is the photo I experimented on--which I took from Deconet-- accurate? I'd never noticed how clumsy the legs angles are, from this vantage point.
There's no doubt in my mind-- Hans was having an off-day, when he concocted this chair.

Life before and after trying a Papa Bear chair
william, it IS the Holy Grail of armchairs! But you have to sit in one to understand. Before I did, I was in your camp. Now I have even taken to its odd proportions and think it looks great. Its only real contender for comfort is the Womb Chair.

The Loveseat is another matter
I agree with Pegboard on that.

No, the
loveseat doesn't seem to work, visually. Why would we assume it might ? You can't change one dimension of an object without affecting the appearance of all the parts. The barely-adequate seat thickness now looks really weak. It may very well BE weak, in fact. . .
As for the chair as Wegner designed it, I admit it's odd -- though the leg angles don't bother me. If the chair works structurally and is comfortable (the origin of those unusual cantilevered arms is to allow a sideways posture when desired), then we have to accept the design as complete, correct, and satisfactory, in my opinion. Wegner usually knew what he was doing. . .didn't he ?
