Pantone 2009 Color of the Year: 14-0848 Mimosa  

I just put
a pair of yellowish leather chairs in my booth yesterday. Unfortunately, I called them "citron". I'm immediately going to change the tag to read "mimosa". Who knew?!

It
seems a little..well, speculative.. to say the least, to name a colour of the year before the year's even started.
Shall we look at it again this time next year, or discover what the 'colour of the year' for this year was ? 😉

There is
an entity that predicts color choices -- would that be clairvoyance-as-promotion -- a self-fulfillng prophecy ?
I expect that citron is a quite different yellow from the one shown above -- a cooler yellow ? I wonder if someone here can elucidate to what extent certain color names are more or less permanent and accepted, as opposed to proprietary names for colors ?

I dunno how they come up with names for colors but I sure want the job. My daughter and I actually figure in the name of paint colors when choosing them, on the basis of how amusingly ridiculous they sound when someone asks us what the paint on the wall is. "Oh, that? That's Russian Velvet."
