Is the paint on the back the original grey HM paint usually done on upholstered armchairs? If so, I was able to strip those grey paints, easily just by sandpaper. But if someone else spray painted on any of these fiberglass chairs, that's a different story. I wouldn't be here asking questions. I have used an 80 grit but still the paint is still in the crooks and cranny. I'm afraid if I go any deeper I would just shred the chair to bits. If ever there's a lesson to be learned here is, never ever buy a painted fiberglass chair, there's no stripper out there string but safe enough to cleanly strip off fiberglass completely. Or you'll just go mad scraping to no avail.
My experience is only
with the method and product I used. The Paint was factory applied, but I also had success with removing spray paint off another fiberglass piece. Like I said I used a power washer to remove the softened paint which gets right down into the uneven spots, unlike a metal scraper or sanding block. Even if the factory paint is easily sanded off that just makes another job of refinishing the sanded surface.

Over the weekend I was able to strip the back half of the chair using the 'Smart Strip'.
Overall I was quite satisfied with the results. The original color was not stained, though some of the paint still remains embedded in the scratches in the chair. I will try another coat without letting it dwell for so long. I used dawn soap and steel wool to remove the paint and clean the surface after.
I did have some fiber loss of some existing loose fibers that were very close to the surface, though I don't think this is a huge loss considering its condition prior to stripping it.
I will take pictures of the final product when complete. I still have one chair that has the terrible bile green paint on it for comparison.
