Yes, you'll need gasket stripper or similar, long sleeve shirt, gloves, goggles and a wire brush. Once its all off you can polish the base by going through grades of wet and dry, I think I stopped at 800 and then buffed with autosol. But paying someone to do it is an option too and if you want it really shiny probably the better one.

@Heath thanks for the input. I used to detail cars so I have all the tools necessary to really make it shine, but I wasn't sure if it's aluminum under the paint or not.
