Is anyone familiar with these designers and their studio? I just picked up a black table lamp that looks like half a lamp--if you sliced it top to bottom. Its kind of fascinating in a bizarre sort of way. It has a white plexiglass back. What year might this have been made? I know these fellows made something called a Dove lamp. Are they still working?

Well, I plugged my half lamp into my computer's console power outlet...
and I'll be darned if this strange lamp doesn't work quite well. It doesn't bump up against the wall. It sits comfortably on against the back edge of my computer desk. It projects light downwards on my key board and desktop. And its white plexiglass back throws a wash of light against my white office wall about six inches away that gives my little computer nook a nice warm radiance of indirect light that is easy on my eyes and lets my flat computer screen stay quite legible. My lamp is black. My flat screen is black. My wall is white and my desk is white and grey with white speakers. I have achieved a tiny semblance of order in one small corner of my life. Who knows? At this rate, perhaps I will soon be prepared to explore color. 🙂
This half desk lamp may seem gimmicky, but it actually works quite well. I suppose it is 90s or, gulp, 80s chic. Regardless, I mention it because someone ought to up date this idea, especially as spaces shrink in coming economic lean times...if they have not already and I am simply unawares. I could see it in white styled to go with an iMac very nicely. Call it an iLite, or something.
