Overman Furniture
Overman made all kinds of extremely awesome chairs and sofas back in the day and yet there is like no information about the company the last forum on Overman was in 06 it looks like. As far as I know
Overman was made in Sweden and the U.S. both under the same Overman name.
Overman makes furniture with a foam construction that is super light weight
The chairs are covered in a high quality vinyl not leather like advertized on eBay all the time.
Seems to be heavenly influenced by Arne Jacobsen
Most have metal star leg bases but some are made with no legs.
Fabrics: Buffalo and Serpino are two fabric names that are not a regular color I know of
What I am really interested in who were the designers of this furniture?
But any info at all on this furniture would be amazing to add to my list.

i've had.....
overmann over the years and its just poor man's fritz hansen.......
just look at the bases........ they knocked off arne jacobsen's base design from the swan and egg.
its styro-foam covered with vinyl..... cool looking yes, but never really will be collectable or valuable.
call a spade......
...... a spade.
its never snobbish to state the obvious truth.
as for trying to figure out who 'designed' these pieces, most likely a staff committee at overmann who took existing designs and tweaked them.
it was a purely economy, fashion trend response to the market at the time......
is there really anything else to know ??
Since you acknowledge them to be weak copies
of other designers work, why would you be remotely interested in the particular names of the copyists that Overman employed?
Those who copy other people's designs enjoy many advantages-- easy work, less risk of rejection, smooth unfurrowed brows. The disadvantage of being a copyist is anonymity. I'd say it's a fair trade off.
I love Overman
Wow I am very suprized everyone is so quick to write overman off. I am the opposite and love it to death.
I also might add that overman is far more comfortable then an Arne Jacobsen. Yes i would rather have a jacobsen chair then an overman but I would rather have an overman then a new production jacbosen any day.
whats the deal?
I know I am new to the forms and that this is my first post but I never would have thought that when someone posts a question about a piece of furniture that people would start bad talking it right away and then fill the page with a bunch of stupid pictures that have nothing to do with what my question was about.
I am sorry chewbaca that you don?t like Overman that is perfectly alright but why fill my thread up with all this junk I didn?t ask for anyone?s opinion of the furniture all I asked is if people had any information about it.
Is this how this form works people list a question and then everyone slams it. None of the other threads look like this?
I think your question was answered.
There is no 'good word' for Overman.
Overman is not the other Jacobsen.
Maybe the responses are a bit cynical, less educational, but ya kinda
asked for it. : )
The original buyers of the Overman chairs are the same type of shopper
today that are buying the fun-n-funky orange pleather space-ship crazy
crap from Target. (at 600 dollars!)
Your examples are just older. And still fun. And cheaper.
I had some great stuff in college from the thrift.
And best to keep it out of the landfill.
Like Plycraft, you may find an rare exception but i've not seen it.
