That bloody curve!
Every measurement is acurate and the piece is level but it obviously has a curve when you look at it, what did I do wrong?
It is held to the wall with two floating shelf brackets (length of metal rod with threaded end)
After the advice above I think I will start with the easier option of cross dowels, I have the all the equipment in the work shop for the mitre job but maybe I will try and master it with scarps for now, as Heath said a butt joint can look just as elegant if done well!
The larger unit will have vintage drawers just like the shelf different sizes, conditions and age. I saw a similar unit 10 or 15 years ago and it always stuck in my mind.
I sat and read this thread for a day or two after I started it and it became far more interesting than I had hoped I know every thread dies out but it is very interesting reading the conversations between SDR, Heath rockland etc. and I hope more of your work is posted, I am sure it cannot be seen as advertising.
You could have 4 uprights, us...
You could have 4 uprights, use the cross dowels in the middle two and use concealed pins on the end two, that way your screws aren't so close to the edge, you don't have to use as thick a stock (1/2" ply?) and if you're fussy a book or vase covers the screws.
Best of luck!
Is there really a curve in the one you posted? If you template routed it maybe your straight edge moved inwards as you did it, happens easily if you don't attach it at 3 points, at least.
