So, at a local antiques/thrift store, I happened to spot a Peter Hvidt for John Stuart Daybed. Really sharp piece, but it was clearly originally part of a set with a corner table, as it only had one arm. It was priced at $250, and needed new cusions. Being strapped for cash, and only having one arm, I did not buy it. Can't decide if that was a slip move or not.I suspect it will still be there when I go back tomorrow, but what the heck can I do with one with only one arm? Think I could locate another? Have one fabricated? Worth purchasing to flip? AAAHHH! I just want it to have the other arm so I can keep it. Give me some feedback here.....Pic below is exactly as the one is at the store.
For $250!. That is a ridiculously good deal. There are a variety of corner tables that would finish it off nicely. And some of them aren't very expensive. (The Minerva corner table you are probably thinking of is quite desirable and expensive)
I would absolutely buy it, and do just that.
Oh, and apropos of adding an arm: I suspect that wouldn't be possible, because that isn't just an arm. It folds down, and the support mechanism is in the back. It is a bit hard to explain. I have a catalog photo, or you could find one on the Internet, I am sure. Anyway I suspect that the France and Søn did not put the mechanism in the back for the right side, since there was no need.
Only other thing to say about the folding arm is don't sit on it when it is folded out. It is supposed to have a rear triangular shaped cushion put on it to make a pillow.
edit: went and found a photo with the arm down.
