I am in the market for one...
I am in the market for one of these chairs and I can't decide between old vs. new. Of the 2 chairs, which one is more beautiful? Which one is more comfortable to sit in for long hours at a time? Do you think the new one has cut any corners in terms of quality? I really like the look of the new white leather, ash veneers, and polished bases. They look very contemporary but I am weary that they aren't built as good. I am not convinced that the all-foam cushions are as comfortable as the down/foam cushions of the older models. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds like you've tried sitt...
Sounds like you've tried sitting in the newer chair. Was it in a show room? Just know that show room chairs tend to be much softer than brand new chairs which will take some time to get to a comfortable level. But it will eventually with use. If you haven't already, try a vintage chair and you'll see the difference. Some people swear by all down and feathers, but I find the well worn foam cushion or half and half more comfortable.
As far as cutting corners, there've been many production changes in these chairs over the years and I personally like mostly everything on the vintage ones more, from the leather, shock mounts, glides, spacers, to the cushion clips. Though I must agree the white leather on white ash is sexy, good luck on keeping it clean.
Just a reminder if you buy vintage, triple check the shock mounts. Good luck.

Ottoman feet
The ottoman on the left side of pic seems to have a boot above the glide. Is this original? My ottoman looks like the rightside version.

The boot glides on the ottoma...
The boot glides on the ottoman indicate an early version of the Eames Lounge Chair. Later productions coverted to the screw in glides.
