Hi there- this is a one part question and one part discussion thread- Question: Did Milo Baughman design for Monarch Furniture Company? Discussion: How many companies actively went to the High Point market and ripped off designs? I feel like I see "Designer X" Style furniture all the time and it often originates from some no-name company in North Carolina. On the same hand, is it possible that the designers actually did design for these small manufacturers?Maybe we can get a running list of companies that actively stole aesthetics with absolutely no relation to the designers from which they borrowed?
No. Although some sources say yes. I'm deciding that the truth is no.

I think pretty much every company that ever went to market ripped off their competition. This is what furniture companies do, over and over again. The running list would include pretty much everyone in the main stream of things. That's fashion. Then again, plenty of things are just non-attributable, e.g. the color red or checkerboard patterns. Once part of the lexicon, a thing is subject to re-use and abstraction.
It's always a no-name company in North Carolina because that's where many major US upholstery/furniture manufacturers have been / are located. Even the big names in the industry have very little household name recognition, which must partially be due to the constant repetition of sameness in their products, in addition to the fact that most people (you know, regular people (?)) are just not really thinking too much about that kind of thing...
It's just a table. It's just a chair. ?
