Damaged Noguchi coffee table base!
It was damaged during storage,we assumed it was out of harms way by wrapping it in bubble wrap & placing it off the laundry room floor on top of the washing machine during an 8 month remodel. However, we discovered a large bubble on the painted surface, sort of an egg shell bubble w/a cracked surface... it's now ruined!
Quite upsetting since I always take care of my expensive belongings... all things really.
My guess is the vibration caused friction between the bubble wrap & painted surface creating a blister or bubble. I'm sick about it...
Any suggestions whether it's repairable???
thanks!

Is this a dark
stained finish ? You mention paint -- which is easily repaired/replaced. If a surface veneer has separated, it can be glued down again, and the finish restored. Consult a professional. No, you piece is likely not ruined !
As for the cause of this defect -- I'm dubious of the scenario as presented. Heat, water, and/or a hidden defect in the piece, would be more likely. Bubble wrap is unlikely to have been perfectly sealed against moisture, and a drip from above during the long dormancy of the table base could have done the damage you describe -- I believe.

If it is real
... there would be no veneer. The Noguchi coffee table made by Herman Miller is crafted of solid wood.
You would have to take your base to a quality shop to see what is wrong and how to go about repairing it. Almost anything can be repaired or restored, it's just a matter of how much it will cost compared to replacing it.
What you describe sounds to me like something that could, and should, be repaired so you can enjoy your table once again.

Noguchi table is authentic
Yes, the Noguchi table is licensed and signed... it's a Herman Miller piece. And, I am sorry I misspoke when I said it was painted... it must be a veneer. The base is black.
One poster said something about a drip, or drop of moisture could of caused the damage, probably not since it was sealed quite tight and the laundry room did not have any moisture from the ceiling or anything like that.
Someone mentioned maybe it was defective. I think I'm going to check into why this problem could occur in the first place... contact the manufacturer, Herman Miller, and see what response they come up with on the issue.
Obviously I am very disappointed and upset, the piece cost quite a lot.
Thanks for responding to my inquiry.

Noguchi solid wood...
oops I mistakenly said the Noguchi table base is veneer, I'll get it right eventually. It is solid wood with a black lacquer finish!!! The bubbled spot when touched cracked. I'm thinking the best avenue is contacting Herman Miller. Thanks!

Perhaps the bubble-wrap...
Perhaps the bubble-wrap acted as a kind of convection oven. Perhaps a bit of moisture was still present within the wood at the time of lacquering. As the temperature within the bubble-wrap package rose the moisture within the piece tried to escape, forming a bubble.
