Go natural.
Go cork. Feels good, looks good, is good.

I'm not totally against cork
I just think the colors/patterns of the samples I liked did not work well with the mahagony.
I think I will do more research on cork, vct, and mamoleum.

Look at this link.
Hope the project is going well. Here are some links that might help you. It's mostly about VCT.

Hi Caco
I actually went to look at VCT today from an Armstrong delear. I like the look of the white tiles. I'm thinking of doing all in one direction instead of in a checkered pattern.
I'm still not ruling out cork, but I haven't found a pattern I like yet. On top of that, it's super expensive.

Sorry guys for the repost...
but we're really happy with the way our floor turned out. 24"x24" porcelain tile.

Dudedah, that looks...
Dudedah, that looks great....almost like terrazzo. Who makes the tiles?

Thanks Jesgord...
the tiles are from American Olean, the Hennessey Place collection. We got the Carrara color (white) which has a slight bit of grey veining in it. We looked at Terrazzo but it was like $21 sq/ft and we did 1300 sq ft...which added up quick.

Amazing floors, DudeDah!
I'm going to have a tough time deciding especially after seeing these pictures.

Eichler Tours
Joan, another option depending on where you live is to go to an Eichler home tour. They do those in various cities about once a year. You can grab many ideas from there. I've been to a couple and they were mostly recently remodeled homes. just google "Eichler home tour" and you'll probably find some in your area.
Hope that helps.

I wish we had cork...
...but our home came with the original hardwood, so it will stay that way. Radiant heat under cork is just dreamy. Plus cork has a number of advantages. It's a renewable resource, you can sand and refinish cork just like wood floors, and it comes in different thickness and colors so you can choose the tone and the density. I think it feels great under foot.
We have a kid, and surprisingly he is made out of flesh and bone, not glass. I would not make a chose based on having children. Frankly, I'd worry more about our guy damaging nice concrete floors than the other way around. You want a nice soft surface to sit and play on? Get a rug.
Lastly, I'd think your home would have more value if you kept with original materials and finishes.
Just my two cents.

Porcelanosa tiles
We used the Porcelanosa 17x26 tiles through out our Eichler except the bedrooms. The pattern looks kind of like concrete.

Underivative surfaces in...
Underivative surfaces in Eichlers were not as "unemotional" as Neutra or Ellwood or Mies -- there was ireland, tree, close impact to equilibrize writer and container. Don't "cool" yourself (and your kids) out of asylum and plate -- for a view of neo -- unless that's real what turns you on.
