I just acquired a rather rough Nelson rolltop desk...can anyone that has one please tell me what holds the wood slats in the roll top together. If you could post some pictures that would be great!

As far as I know,

I thought it might be a wire..can anyone get me some detailed pictures? I need to know before I do a full resurection on this desk.
