Hello, my husband and I recently moved into his dad's Eichler, and we are in the process of remolding and buying new furniture. We found six of these old Herman Miller chairs in the garage and were about to give them to goodwill.

I've looked online for information on the model and history of this chair but can't seem to find any. I know it's a Herman Miller because of the stamp at the bottom. The chair is covered with what I think is leather or a synthetic type leather and is light brown in color with either dark brown or black piping.

If anyone can provide information or let me know where I can find out more about these chairs, please let me know. How much are these chairs worth? We have six of them.

I apologize in advance for my horrible cellphone pic.

The chairs are related to eames
As stated the chairs are fiberglass based Charles Eames chairs with zinc h base. Value wise it all depends on the buyer. If you are selling them quote a price and I will buy them. However, they should play well with your Eichler if you are staying true to the period. Blessings, Lenox
I can not wait for our Eichler, one day.

I honestly don't know how...
I honestly don't know how much to quote for these chairs. I'm just trying to gather information on them right now. They were paired with a DUX(??) table. These chairs don't appeal to me asthetically, although I do find them interesting. We actually just purchased a new dinette set, but I keep wondering if it's "Eichler" enough.
I was not into mid century modern anything until we moved into the Eichler (kicking and screaming). As I read more about Eichler and mid century modern, I'm starting to appreciate this unique little house. What's great is that it's virtually untouched, so it will be a blast and a challenge remodeling it while trying to stay true to the Eichler concept.

Hi
Would love to see pics of your house.
You could get around 150-200 each for the chairs, if they are in good shape, and depending on the color.

kicking and screaming?!
Wow. Most people would blow a gasket if they inherited an Eichler. Truly a fortunate event!!! And, yes, please furnish this house appropriately. There are several websites dedicated soley to Eichlers. Are you aware of them?
Consider keeping the DUX table and Eames chairs. You'll thank me later...

Hi Woody,
I would love to share pics, but all I have at the moment is my crappy cellphone. Hubby lost the USB cord to our camera.
Looks like with these chairs the vibrant colors seem to be fetching the higher prices. I may keep two for our home and sell the other four. Would it be a crime to have them reupholestered?

You're not going to get much for them realistically...
The upholstered chairs aren't worth as much as the bare fiberglass chairs.
I would consider reupholstering them in something more to your liking. And don't be afraid of color or zany patterns. They're fantastic dining chairs. More comfortable than most.
There's a fellow on eBay who reupholsters them very well. Modjoe I think it is? Something like that. Maybe woody knows?

Nope
I don't have any experience with reupholstering these chairs, but in my opinion the cost of reupholstering may not be justified relative to the value of the chairs, especially if you don't like them that much to begin with.
I think you would be better off selling these for a fair price and getting what you like. As you can see, most of us here are hoping that it would be something in the modern aesthetic....

I know... I know... I'm used...
I know... I know... I'm used to living in newer homes and as I stated before, this house is virtually untouched. Everything looks old to me. The glass is covered with blinds, and the mahogany paneling is super dark, so it feels more like a cabin right now. I hate dark walls, but I really don't want to paint over the mahogany because, from what I've been reading, that would be a blasphomous act.
I know only of the eichlernetwork. Are there other sites that you can recommend?

Thanks, Geo. Aww... look at that chair. It looks so happy outside, soaking in the sun. My poor chairs are stuck in the garage, never to see the light of day. I'm leaning towards selling them to someone that will give them the love and attention they deserve.

Yes I'd agree with that, woody...
You'd have to like them enough to use them long term to justify reupholstery. I think it's something like $75 per chair for the fellow on eBay to do his magic.

You should go have a look at...
You should go have a look at lottaliving.com/bb The Mid Century Modern Homes section is where you want to look.
Its a great resource for Eichler and other MCM restoration /renovation information.
The thread "100 Ways to Screw Up Your Mid-Century Modern Home" linked below provides a nice (somewhat tongue and cheek)guide to what not to do.

Another option for your home.
You should consider selling the home to someone who appreciates it and buying one in the style you like. A lot of people do a lot of damage to these houses by tearing up original kitchens, paneling etc. It sounds like you are going in that direction.
Don't take this the wrong way. Don't mean to sound rude it's just a suggestion. I would be jumping up and down for months if I inherited an Eichler home in it's original state. Heck even if it was modified.

Excuse me Caco
But you don't know my situation and why we are in this house to begin with. We are in the process of remodeling and are definitely trying to keep the Eichler concept in mind. In fact, we are only speaking to contractors that have Eichler experience. I have done a ton of research and am trying to do right by this house. I am NOT taking down the mahagony paneling as I stated in my previous post. We are trying our best to undo what was done with the house. Dad didn't do a very good job in keeping to the original design.
I'm sorry... I'm not in love with the chairs but doesn't mean I'm going to rip apart this unique house.
Edit - I want to add that Dad added ceiling fans, changed the outside door, the garage doors, and the flooring. Everything else is pretty much intact.
