I have lots of furniture from a 1970s Boca Raton house -- it was all very expensive at the time. Royal Palm Yacht and Country Club -- near the Hotel.
I'm trying to find someone who can tell me the re-sale value (if any) of this stuff. I've had some gays express an interest in it but have no idea of its value (or lack thereof)'
The patio furniture is streamlined aluminum (I think) -- which in the past
I was told is very rare but don't remember the manufacturer's name.
The master bedroom set is white lacquer w mirrors in a criss-cross (basket weave) inset and Lucite handles.
The dining room chairs are teak with rattan (I think) on the backrest.
There is also a huge (I think it is lucite) object d'arte showcase which is brown and clear with lights on the top.
I have pictures of all this stuff. Not asking anyone for a price here, just looking for a source or two in Miami who can tell me if I should just sell this on eBay or Craig's List or if it is actually "worth" something to a collector.
This was all designer furniture and VERY EXPENSIVE in the late 1970s and I'm clueless if it has any value now -- and if it does where I should try to consign it or sell it.
Any suggestions gratefully appreciated.
Don't ask, don't tell
shragae,
Boca Raton is the area that the people who can not afford to live in Palm Beach proper reside (new rich - not generally know for their discriminating taste - hence the mirrors and lucite).
What does homosexuals being interested in your furniture have to do with the value?
Your photos are so poor that it is impossible to determine anything.
Have you ever considered doing your own homework?
I would suggest that you sell your "Miami Design" furniture to the first person who expresses an interest and has cash.
Ark, sorry for the poor...
Ark, sorry for the poor quality of the pictures -- they were actually taken 20 years ago in Boca. The furniture is currently in storage so I can't get nice digital prints for you.
The "gays" comment was not meant to be negative. My gay friends have much better taste than any of my straight ones -- and that includes me! My thought was it might be an "in thing" at the moment. I simply don't know.
Helpful comments are appreciated. Thanks.
no apology required
shragae,
There is no need to apologize to me.
Do not let the myth that a person has to be of a certain sexual orientation to have good taste fool you. I am not a homosexual (a statement of fact not a comdemnation) and my taste is and always has been impeccable.
Based on the photos you provided it looks to me (and I could be mistaken) that the only thing that may have any value is the chairs. Once again I would suggest that you get a better photos and make an attempt to do at least some of the work yourself. There are a great many design shops in the Miami area and someone there will be happy to help you if you ask nicely (do not tell them that you are looking to sell on eBay - this equates to a free appraisal).
Once again, nobody on this forum ever apologizes to me and there is no need for you to be the first. Good luck.
Merry Christmas and/or Happy Hanukkah
Thank you for your very kind...
Thank you for your very kind post. I am doing my best to research these and that is one reason I posted here.
I did find chairs for sale on eBay that match the chairs to my kitchen set. The set includes these chairs and a glass top table with a lucite base (round).
I'm posting the photo from eBay, but my chairs are identical (except they've been recovered). The original seats were bright blue cloth is still under the current cloth. . .
The description from eBay is:
4 1970s vintage LUCITE Chairs.
mid century modern, style of charles hollis jones.
Again, thanks and I'll keep plugging away for information on this stuff.
(I'm not gay either and I have horrible taste!)
