I have been looking for the terminology used for supporting legs on the "outside" of a Danish Modern chest of drawers. I don't think floating is the correct way to describe them,
They are formed as an upside down "U" and are splayed at the base (1) on each side.
Does anyone if these are described as floating or is there another term for the?

thanks very much!

Again, a pic would help.
Can you find an image online of what you are describing and post a link to it ?

Leg description for Chest of drawers
Sorry, but it is for sale on Craigs List and I am unable to post an image.
The legs are on the outside of the case piece formed as an upside down "U"
I am going to purchase it today when I meet with the seller and will do so once that occurs.

A link to the CL listing?
Or are you afraid you'll get scooped?

Scooped
It is really a nice piece and yes I do not want to post an image of it until I purchase.
You are a smart man!

That is probably the most accurate!
I am not sure if that is what they are called in the profession, but I've seen them on more desks than chest of drawers. In my reasearch I have seen them on Oman Juns' desks.
Thanks for your reply!

Cradle legs?
Yeah! I got it, but not before a showdown at the OK Corral. A brief history...
Found the image on CL 2 hours after it was posted, called the woman and asked her what time I could come and see it the next day(today). We set an appointment time and I asked her to promise me that she would let me have 1st dibs on it. I was 30 minutes early, got a call from her saying "I sold it" and that there was a dealer right there wigh a check in his hand(She posted cash only on her ad) I said that I was right around the corner and begged her not to sell to him and that she promised me that I could see it first and that I wanted it!
Anyway to make a long story longer...got there 2 minutes later and she and the good looking male dealer was waiting in her garage for me to show up and see it. Anyhow I bought it and he was so sweet he helped me load the chest in my car, but I was sick that I almost missed a great piece. I ended up giving him a hug since I know what it feels like to miss a great find! I guess it does pay to be the early bird. If I was 15 minutes early for this appointment I would have probably missed it! I will post images when I get a chance!
I still don't know what you call the darn legs mounted on the outside sides of the Danish chest of drawers.

not possible
terryt,
You can not lose something you do not have. There is almost always more of the same thing available and often times at a lower cost.
Collecting is a passion for me and yet it is all still "stuff" and I am only the temporary care taker.

thank you
robert1960,
I appreciate all your attention.
Should you ever need employment you will be perfect working as an editor for people who have "original thoughts" and make spelling errors. The world needs more "i" dotters and "t" crossers. The lowest level of intelligence can always find work with the highest level as their minions.

A shot at description.
Assuming basic similarity to Omann-Jun desks, I guess I'd call it something like a "solid-panel chest suspended between exterior-mounted, sculptured-frame legs". Technical, but accurate, I believe. If there are no bottom rails on the leg assemblies, as there are on Omann-Jun, leave the word "frame" off.
Can't wait to see the photos!

"Stuff"
Yes, Nice Guy I agree that it is just "stuff" if that's the way you look at collecting, however I thought this web site is for Design Addicts...oops I guess that you are just a recreational user. Sorry 😉
