Is this in the US ?
Is this in the US ?
I thought it was in the UK
We rarely see walnut mid century furniture here..it is nearly always teak, rosewood or some obscure tropical hardwood..or stained to look like one of the above
Fashions for woods and treatments are not international at all..
When I visit the US ( I go twice a year..all my family live there) most of the furniture looks quite 'alien' to my European eye..odd grains and finishes

I'm suspicious of them being ...
I'm suspicious of them being walnut - especially as the carcass is clearly birch - they may be all birch with a very dark pigmented finish. I think that whatever the facing veneer used it'll have an impermeable finish so you'll find that oil will just slide across the surface -in which case just use wax and duster to look after them.

Oil did soak in..
The sides are birch ply wood, which I have now seen on other units...but we cleaned it and put the danish oil on last night and it looks so much better...later I put new pictures up of it.
Thanks again.

Thanks again everyone
I did sell it to the person I was thinking of...and Maryanne, you were right on the money. We settled on $350. and it was Craigs list. It did have a few dings and such...
Here it is after the danish oil and put back on the wall.

It's a nice looking system
Your buyer got a good deal. I'm extremely fond of wall-mounted shelving systems-- they're space efficient, great looking, and easy to transport. To me, a room's sort of empty without one.
