Hello Design Addicts Im a young passionate designer who wants to venture out into the design world once completing my Degree (May 2016). I have began designing some awesome furniture which is minimal and Bold and made from Cement/Concrete with steel structures. I will be making all types of furnishings such as Benches, Tables and fire pits.
I Thought I would write in this forum to see if you Guys could assist me in naming my brand I want it to sound unique and Bold just like my products. I have been thinking of names which relate to the processe and I have just thought of single words such as: SET, POUR, MOULD. But I would like to see if you guys could help me as "Many hands make light work."
I always seem to do better at assisting others at naming businesses but when it comes to mine I always seem to over think and complicate things.
Thank you
Regards
Luke Gawthorp

I'd say stay away from anything that is specific to the kinds of things you want to design now, that way you don't have to think up another name if and when you move on to some other design forms later (as often happens in the evolution of a business). Your actual name is pretty unusual---I'd think about just going with that.

hello thank for your input you are right. I have already made a brand which I had to do as part of my course and it was based on up cycled products as it was to design a low cost sustainable business. This is called 'REBORN' i don't know if to stick with that

Did you google "reborn"? While it's an apt name for a line of recycled furniture, it's also an anime thing and the name of a very popular doll company that makes very lifelike newborn infant dolls for the adult collector. I'd ditch that name real fast if it were mine.

Lgawthorp,
Think like the real big boys. By this I mean General Motors, Shell, Koninklijke Philips and so on...
The term savannah grasslands is transformed to the GM Savana Passenger van. A derivative of the name is also viable. Chattem, Inc's use of the name Koapectate from the mineral Kaolinite (commonly known as kaolin or "white gold" should there be large deposits on your property).
To be successful I have found it important to use a successful business model. Copy Starbucks if you desire to sell coffee.
Stay far away from reborn, some people may think they have to get baptized.
I am sure you know cement and concrete are two different materials.
Good luck

I don't know if you are familiar with the work of Swiss designer Willy Guhl, maybe this might help point you to some direction. Guhl is the only one 20th century designer I know that used concrete, a material not usually associated with making furniture.

or you could also just make up a good sounding designer names like Craig Elwood, Frank Gehry or Ralph Lauren. Same with Hollywood making up names like Charlie Sheen, Racquel Welch, Rita Hayworth or Linda Ronstadt to hide ethnicity or Rock Hudson to hide sexuality or something foreign sounding like Hagen Dazs. Best of luck.
