The Seattle Times has a contest to pick the Seven Wonders of the World. It has named 21 finalists. The link to the list with pics is given below.
I note that only 3 of the 21 finalists could be said to be modern wonders: the Eiffel Tower, the Statue of Liberty and the Sydney Opera House.
I also not that none of these three seem nearly as wonderous as the other 18 old to ancient wonders.
Question: were the ancients better designers/architects than the moderns? Has modernity lost some knowledge of design that prevents moderns from achieving the greatness of the ancients, or is there some biasing in the lense of hindsight that just makes the ancients seem more gifted.
