You are looking at some bad photos in a junky setting.
Depending on the scale of your bedroom and other furnishings,
and considering, if you can visualize, what it may look like with
a mattress, bedding and pillows, i think the top bed, with the simple
foot-board is rather nice. It does appear to have an overload of
competing materials, but once pillows appear, the woven area
will hardly be seen. The attached side tables keep everything tidy.
Hard to really judge even the condition they are in.
Not really that bad at all.
If in a minimalist and tidy setting it could be nice.
It would also work in a late 70's Burt Reynolds film. Motel room.
Both beds are very nice...
But as rockland said...
1. The environment will dictate whether or not they work. I think the more ornate or intricate the pieces of design in an interior, the less are needed in the space.
2. The design will not be as evident once sheets and shams are present. So to me, while I really like the beds, I don't see the point. Seem a bit wasteful.
I've been debating this myself for years as well. I've had a couple of opportunities to purchase Nelson beds both vintage and Modernica reissue but have passed each time. Like jdip said, unless the sheets are tightly tucked they look silly.
After much searching and comparison my favorite beds are actually the simpler McCobb and Heywood Wakfield storage headboards with a very minimal bed frame and of course no bed skirt. The Nelson headboards with the concealed sliding cushion storage are nice as well. But they're nigh on impossible to find a frame to compliment.
Maybe I've gone soft. But I'm plenty satisfied with my 12 foot thick Tempurpedic and a simple, handsome headboard.
jdip...
You can certainly do that. But the original design included attached platforms. So for me, I wouldn't want one without the platform as well. Either a very few of them survived or more likely a very few of them were sold. So rarely do you see the platforms, normally just the headboards.
I had
I had one of those teak beds with the floating headboards for about six months. It was a behemoth, almost crashed the car driving it from craigslist and tweaked my back lifting the headboard off myself.
IMO the bedroom needs the least amount of "design' since you're mostly there to sleep. Which I think is good - that way all you really need is a solid platform bed and those can be had pretty inexpensively.
I find a simple Shaker style bed fits well with modern.
Hi, I think it's hard to get a good quality queen-sized mattress. I would like to share my experience now. I was in the US a year ago then moved to Dubai. I searched many places for a good quality mattress in the US but I couldn't find any, after that, I dropped the plan because I was about to move to Dubai. After coming here one of my colleagues suggested a brand named Royal Rest. Then I visited their site and selected a beautiful queen-sized mattress. The quality and design are really good. I got the best mattress in Dubai. I'm not saying that you can't get a good quality mattress in the US. I am only sharing my experience with you.
