Not really sure what best to call this but, its a sideboard to me. I just bought it this morning. Story behind it is that current owners parents had this made for them when the lived on Long Island back in the 50's. They are down sizing now..the legs on the front were added later when it moved to WV in the late 60's and will be coming off when it moves into my home. Its just over 8ft in length
Like it.
Is that an inlaid stone top ?
It would be nice to see this once again wall-mounted, as originally designed no doubt. But, a single leg at each end (or at the 1/5 and 4/5ths points, say), nearer the front than the back of the piece, would allow it to stand on its own -- like one of those leaning bookcase units. Not a bad solution (particularly with a heavy top) and just as "modern" ?
You will find
holes in the back of your console. I would expect at least some of these to be very near the top edge of the back. These top-most ones are the most important fastening points, as screws or bolts (with flat washers beneath the heads) placed there will best resist the force of gravity.
In the US, these holes would be about 16" apart, as that is the normal (and code-enforced) spacing of wall studs. Wherever the studs in your wall are placed, that is where the screws or bolts should go. The cantilevered weight of this relatively narrow furniture piece (with its heavy top surface) will not be secure if fastened only to sheetrock or (in older construction) plaster over lath.
But you already know all this, I imagine . . . !
Actually this is quite easy t...
Actually this is quite easy to hang because It has 4 T shaped brackets that bolt to the wall first. The legs were added to the front because the previous wall it was installed on has no studs as it was an exterior wall of a very old brick home. I'll post some pictures start to finish of the installation.
